Abington takes its trees seriously. In March 2023 it marked its 16th year as a Tree City USA, and it has had a Shade Tree Commission since 1975. Even so, the township does not regulate the maintenance of trees on private property: whether a tree in your yard stays or goes is your decision, and its safety is your responsibility.
The street trees in front of your house are yours to look after too. Abington asks for at least 8 feet of clearance above the public sidewalk and 14 feet above the roadway, which is a trimming job most people don't think about until a truck clips a limb.

Not for a tree on your own property, as the rules stand. Abington's own FAQ says the township does not regulate the maintenance of trees on private property. Its Shade Tree Commission has been working on a tree preservation and replacement ordinance, though, so check with the township before taking down a large tree.
